Pt. Raj Kumar Bakshi is remembered as an eminent social worker who was groomed under the noble and patriotic influence of his mother and freedom fighter, Rani Dhanraj Pati Bakshi. Widowed at 18, she was motivated towards the freedom movement. She dedicated her life to the independence of our nation and succumbed to injuries at a young age of 39 from a lathe charge at Lahore.
Young Raj Kumar Bakshi was strongly influenced by his mother who lived courageously in the most turbulent of times. He made vast contributions in the Bhoodan Movement and was a strong supporter of the freedom struggle himself. As a social worker and philanthropist he helped several and gave them hope to lead better lives. Setting up educational institution for the masses to spread the light of literacy was one of his ways of contributing to the society. The institution set up as per his wishes by his visionary wife Lt. Smt. Mira Bakshi in 1980 embodying his ideals of Vision, Wisdom, and Strength.
